The Catta Lemur, or Ring-tailed Lemur, is a primate about 50 cm long with an equally long tail.
The catta is a diurnal species, its weight is about 3 kg. The coat is light gray while the belly is white.
Ring-tailed lemurs move using their hands and feet, but unlike other primates, they cannot use their tails for grabbing.
They live in groups of about 20 individuals led by a dominant female.
In the mating season, from April to June, the males impregnate their tail with the scent glands, and swing it in the wind to
spread the smell. Females go into heat for only one day and give birth to 1 to 2 cubs, with a gestation lasting about 135 days.
The little ones stay with their mother and move with her attached to the abdomen, but when they are a little older they move on the back of the mothers.
The average life span of a catta is around 25 years.
They feed on fruit, flowers, leaves and bark.
