To arrive there via Mekong river there are two chances: Slow boat or Speed boat. Slow boat - They are long boat for transporting goods and people, typical way of transporting on the majestic Mekong river. The travel from the Thai border last around two days, and there are several stops on the way along the river. As it has been told us this trip is of an exasperating lowness. Being these boats a sort of "river bus" thousands of stops are guaranteed, upon request, along the way. You'll travel among chickens, pigs, bags of rice and anything else. Speed boat - correspond to a flat boat, high on the side 50 centimeters without side protection and large at maximum 70. Practically is large as much as two asiatic persons sat aside.(I saw a Dutch man occupy only by himelf the place for two local people) for a total of ten person and some goods including the driver. Then in reality the boats are filled up depending on how many tourists has to travel and how big they are. Is a boat without sitting, so after a while a painful on the a.. is guaranteed. During the travel you wear a motorbike elmet. Is a must to bring the following items: - Corks for the ears, because the noise of the engine is awful and after a short time you became deaf; - Dress properly, because even if is 30 celsius grades, thousand drops wet you everywhere and the formula one speed of the boats makes you freeze in less than an hour; - Find a cuscin or a pillow or just seat above the backpack because the pain on the back and the pain on the a.. will soon arrive; - Wear dark sunglass, because even if Mekong river colour is brown it strongly reflects the sun and even more because of the speed of the boat itself after a while the eyes starts to cry. Therefore a nightmare travel among bouncing, drops, noise, cold and it lasts six houres, with only one stop for the toilet, cigarette and food. When we get off the boat we were drunk without having touched any drinks, but... maybe perhaps I would redo it or maybe this time I would travel on a slow boat, who knows....
